Following Jesus through the waters of Baptism

Baptism is an ordinance like communion. It is something that was commanded by Jesus as a reminder of his death and resurrection. It is an outward declaration of an inward change. We do it to show our commitment to Christ and to symbolize our sharing in His death and resurrection.

From time to time we have a special baptism service. Anyone who has accepted Christ as their Lord and savior is welcome to go into the waters.

Baptism does not bring about salvation. It is about symbolism and a conforming to Christ. Immersion symbolizes His death and entry into the grave. Coming up out of the water symbolizes His resurrection.

Why don't we baptize infants? It's simple. Baptism is a conscious act of obedience on the part of the person being baptized and infants simply can't make that decision. Each and every person must decide for themselves to accept Christ. Salvation is not inherited automatically from your parents. We dedicate young children which is a chance for parents to make a commitment to raising their child in the knowledge and admonition of God.
