50 Plus May 2012

the crowd

This month the 50 Plus members of the family at Third Baptist Church got together to have fun and contribute to a good cause. We have an auction, but instead of bidding cash each bid was made in the form of non-perishable food items like canned goods or macaroni.

Brother Steve

Brother Steve did a short message on loving one another especially our enemies. He pointed out that it was just as important to get to know our brothers and sisters and love them with a sacrificial kind of love. Amen 2 that!!

Food table

After the message and a blessing for the food, we enjoyed a summer style meal of hotdogs, home made chili and watermelon. Yummmmmmmm....

Bidding 3

Let the bidding begin! It was a lively and enthusiastic crowd.

Pastor Rich

In addition to the Huggie, prizes included gift certificates, cleaning stuff and teenagers. Yes. You could bid on some of the teens and get their services for one hour to do yard work, house cleaning, or odd jobs. It was a novel idea and the teems fetched a handsome price. Pastor Rich came with the deal to make sure everything ran smoothly.

The tally

The auction was a great success. By the time it was over, we had collected over 580 food items for the food pantry. It is an important ministry especially in the current economy. The auction gave everyone a chance to practice Christian love and generosity. We would love to have you join us in June.
